Ciphr Knows HR SaaS (and how to make great videos)

Ciphr recently caught my attention with a compelling video infographic about job screening and social networks (check it out below - the stats are amazing).  It made me realize that, although 99% of the people I talk to say they don't screen candidates via social networks, these numbers tell a different story.  Reminds me the Al Franken book I never read:   "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them."

The video interested me enough that I did a little digging and actually talked with somebody about the company - and I was impressed.  They've been delivering HR Saas for about 10 years and have about 1 million users worldwide.  They've snagged some nice awards -  they have a sweet mobileHR app - and a nice list of big-time clients.

So check out this guy - a hipster with a cool accent, and you can get a 30k-ft view of what they're all about.  But then go back and watch the video - I guarantee you'll be surprised.

Keep an eye on this company - some people are calling them one of the most trusted hr software brands in the UK.  And that makes sense - even for a good ol' boy like me sitting in North America .  Because with SaaS, it doesn't really matter where you have your blast of morning coffee (or tea), eh?

Cheers (and enjoy the video),

Dennis
*and if you want one more cool accent, you can check out this video too.

College in America [infographic]

On average, college grads earn more $$ than those without a college degree.  It's difficult to debate otherwise.  However, Fast Company created this infographic about the debate, making two points:

1. Whatever students are doing in college, it doesn't appear that "education" is the most important part of their day (witness how students spend their hours every week).

2. “Some majors don’t really qualify you for much.” Again, it's hard to argue against this point.  But that also assumes that every student is about nothing but the money.  And hey, if you've seen my fave quote (upper right-hand corner of blog)....well, here it is, whether you like it or not:

"Life is too short not to do something that matters."

But I digress.

Tired of listening to me type?  Ok, here's the infographic:

Job Search and Confidentiality [infographic]

I can still remember when the extent of "job search confidentiality" meant trying to print your resume and then fast-walk to the printer before one of your colleagues who might find your resume and discover your "job-search-secret."

Yep, things have changed a lot in the last 20 years.  There's millions of other things to consider (or at least just one):  social media.

Check it out below, and see the article in its entirety at Mashable.com.

Am I The Sum of What I Tweet?

Nice reminder by FastCompany's Amber Mac regarding the importance of "personal brand" (which, by the way, never takes a vacation).

U R What U Tweet:  5 Steps to a Better Personal Brand

My favorite is #4:  Never Stop Networking (reminds me of something Dave would say).

And while I'm thinking of networking, hey, let's connect on LinkedIn (feel free to send me an invite:  smithtx@gmail.com).  ~ Dennis

2012 Outlook: 21 Million Americans Will Change Jobs

The number is so big I can hardly imagine that many people changing jobs.  But according to a study just released by Harris Interactive and Cornerstone OnDemand, more than 21 million Americans will change jobs in the next 12 months costing employers more than....$2 Trillion.  Yep.  Trillion, with a T.

And guess what?  We are the problem.  That's right - YOU and ME (according to the study, we rarely provide useful feedback during the performance review process - in fact, it appears we only make things worse).  And it costs us a ton of $$.

Take the full 60 seconds to read the details of the 2012 Report.  Then, click on the picture below to see the full infographic on Jessica Miller-Merrell's site.

G-Mobile: T-Mobile / Google to Launch Mobile Phone

T-Mobile said Monday that it plans to launch a mobile phone powered by Google Inc.'s Android software, making it the first operator to do so and posing a direct threat to Apple Inc.'s popular iPhone.

The New York Times reported the phone will hit the stores in the U.S. before Christmas, perhaps as early as October.

The new device will have a touch screen like the iPhone and other smart phones that use software from firms like Palm Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Nokia Corp. to allow users to access the Internet. But the screen also slides out to expose a full five-row keyboard, the Times report said.

Yahoo Rejects Google Bid

The Wall Street Journal
By MATTHEW KARNITSCHNIG
February 9, 2008 6:27 p.m.

Yahoo Inc.'s board plans to reject Microsoft Corp.'s unsolicited $44.6 billion offer to acquire the Web giant, a person familiar with the situation says.

After a series of meetings over the past week, Yahoo's board determined that the $31 per share offer "massively undervalues" Yahoo, the person said.

It also doesn't account for the risks Yahoo would be taking by entering into an agreement that might be overturned by regulators. The board plans to send a letter to Microsoft Monday, spelling out its position.

Does the Google - Dell Tale Smell?

According to MarketingNews:

Speculation is mounting that Google is plotting the launch of a mobile phone in partnership with computer giant Dell.
Now the speculation begins. Actually, it's been going for some time.

Will Android actually get it runs time on a phone manufactured by Dell?

Hey, in this wacky world of wireless weirdness, I'll believe just about anything.

On the other hand, Elgan's not falling for it and he's got four solid reasons why it doesn't make sense. Check it out HERE.
