In 1997, the phrase "viral-video" had not been created. But in '97-98, this video was single-handedly bringing down email-servers across the globe.
The video was created by a tech company in CO called Loronix - they were developing DVR technology for security-camera systems and needed sample footage to show potential clients how it worked.
Turns out, it worked pretty well - not many 26 second videos have a shelf-life of 20+ years.
My kids will watch this and think, "Meh, no big deal." If fact, they could probably watch it and figure out that it was....STAGED. Something I didn't realize until today, when I read the history behind the video:https://www.wired.com/sto…/history-of-the-first-viral-video/.
In a time when 5 billion videos a day are viewed on YouTube, it's interesting that articles are still being written about this video and its timely arrival to the low-tech Internet of 1997.
Today, it looks super-low-res...like a cheap and poorly made video that barely elicits a raised eyebrow. But it speaks to this - the energy, effort and sacrifice of time to "create" something of value - that is also enduring - is worth the effort.
And I'm not just talking about making videos.

Are You a Rambo-shootin' InMail Machine? #BeACraftsman
Super-relevant post by Kerri Mills providing a bit of guidance for Recruiters regarding InMail messages.
Love InMail? Me too. Use it everyday? How's your response rate?
Yep, it's a common problem among Recruiters. So, what to do?
Check out Kerri's post, for starters. Then determine to become less like a factory. You know what I mean, right? Just get the visual on the Rambo-shootin' InMail machine. That's right - don't be that. Be more like a #RecruitingCraftsman, who knows that a little bit of customization goes a long way.

Switch Jobs Every 3 Years For the Rest of Your Life? Fuhgeddaboudit.
The FastCompany post with the above title (Switch Jobs Every 3 Years For the Rest of Your Life?) has raised quite a ruckus among those in the recruiting community. In a profession that has, for the most part, historically trumpeted the benefits of sticking with it (translation: #NoJobHopping), Vivian Giang is doing an about-face and voices her opinion that can be summed up in one sentence:
"That stigma (hold down your job) is fast becoming antiquated--especially as millennials rise in the workplace with expectations to continuously learn, develop, and advance in their careers."

Twitter Skews Young, LinkedIn Skews Old [graph]
The chart below, from Statista.com, illustrates the age structure of social networks in the United States.
50% of Twitter's unique visitors in October 2013 were younger than 35 years, while 2/3 of LinkedIn's users were older than 35.
Facebook apparently appeals to people of all ages, but it still lags behind Linkedin with the gray hairs (um, yeah, that would be me).

The LinkedIn Tidal Wave
It's hard to argue against LinkedIn's effectiveness with these kind of numbers. And, when it's typically the first work-related site I access in the morning, and the last one I close out each night.
But really, only 50% of LinkedIn users have a completed profile?
Oh, I almost forgot my shameless plug - come visit me on LinkedIn (clicky-clicky HERE).
