Nokia Bids Adieu to Fort Worth, TX Distribution Center

Nokia Corp., which as recently as 2000 had about 3,800 employees in Fort Worth, said Thursday that it will close its distribution center in the Alliance Airport industrial park next year, ending a 14-year run of making and distributing cellphones in Tarrant County.

The Finnish company, which has 2,000 employees at its U.S. headquarters in Irving, said the move will affect about 450 workers at the center, 5650 Alliance Gateway. About 150 jobs will move to the Irving offices, and the remaining 300 employees will be laid off, said Nokia spokesman Charles Chopp.
