Whether you are reading this blog via rss, or whether you stumbled upon it by mistake makes no difference. The fact that you took the time to read the first sentence makes all the difference in the world!
Our buddy over at HRSEO, Joel Cheesman, had an interesting post today called, "Can I have your attention for 1/20 of a second, please?" Joel refers to a new study by news @ nature titled "Web users judge sites in the blink of an eye."
Here's the short version of the study:
Web users make up their mind about a site in the first twentieth of a second.
That's right - 1/20 of a second.
Those of you who proposed marriage within the first tenth of a second after meeting your wife-to-be are thinking, "So what's your point?"
Well, there really is a point and it's aimed directly at our corporate job sites. What are we doing to bring people (potential candidates) to our corporate job/career/blog site and keep them there longer than 1/20 of a second?
To Joel's point, search engine optimization can assist with getting the right people to your site. But we've got to do a better job of keeping them.
